Tom's Setup

Guitars (click for picture):
  1. "Arm The Homeless" Custom - A custom Performance guitar with almost all the parts (neck, hardware, pickups, etc...) changed. It has EMG pickups (81 in the neck, 85 in the bridge), an Ibanez Edge vibrato, and what appears to be a Kramer neck. Tuning: Standard (EADGBE).
  2. Early 80's Fender American Standard Telecaster - Completely stock, except for various pictures on it and scratches/chips from smashing a TV with it at the 2000 Video Music Awards. Tuning: Drop D (DADGBE).
  3. Ibanez Custom Talman - As Tom describes it, "[...] I noticed that when you set the toggle between the two pickup settings, there was a really peculiar, high-pitched noise, and you could manipulate the tone of it dramatically when you turned the tone knob. I asked them what the noise was, and they said it was just incidental noise, that the guitar had an internal pickup and it was picking up this weird noise that they were trying to get rid of! I said, "Oh, no, no-come here with that one." [laughs] I gave them an idea of what I thought was possible with that noise, and they were kind enough to custom build a guitar for me with that feature in it. It's an Ibanez Talman." - Tom Morello, in Guitar World. Tuning: Drop D (DADGBE).
  4. Ibanez Custom Artstar Hollowbody - Has onboard effects (Wah-Wah, Echo, Distortion, and Treble/Bass Boost). Modelled after an old Vox that Tom saw at Guitar Center. Tuning: Standard (EADGBE).
  5. St. George "creamy" - Small, lightweight guitar. Middle position in the toggle switch is dead, creating a "hummingbird"-style toggle sound. DiMarzio Hot-Rail pickup in bridge, bad-ass tone from neck pickup (just listen to any live version of "Calm Like a Bomb" during the chorus). Bought in a Canadian pawn shop, no one knew the brand until recently. Tuning: Drop A (AADGBE) or Drop D (DADGBE).
  6. Gibson EDS1275 Double-Neck - Completely Stock. Tuning: Drop D (DADGBE) on Both Necks.
  7. Ibanez AX Custom - Possible built-in Whammy pedal (pushbutton control and knob are evidence of such), "Devil 340" sticker, Floyd Rose-style vibrato, probably an Ibanez Edge. EMG SA in neck, 81 in bridge. Backup for the telecaster.
  8. Ibanez Roadstar - Small hippo stickers. Backup for the "Arm the Homeless".
